Gary Hill is considered one of the most important pioneers of video art. In his installations and video works, Gary Hill explores the processes of perception and media influence. Intertextuality and physicality play an important role, especially in his early work.
The documentary film accompanies Gary Hill as he sets up his exhibition "Gary Hill – strange trajectories", which was organised in 2007 by the imai – inter media art institute at the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf as an extensive retrospective.

Filmmaker Ralph Goertz was allowed to accompany Gary Hill during the installation in 2007. In one of his rare interviews, Gary Hill talks about his artistic work.
The film was shot in 2007 in the old 4:3 television format on Betacam SP and DV. It has now been digitally remastered and is available in HD format.
